Latest updates on the upcoming fall semester:

  • After continuing declines in community spread – and as D.C. notched 10,000 cases – Mayor Muriel Bowser placed D.C. in Phase II of reopening in late June, allowing some indoor dining and nonessential retail. Bowser announced that people traveling from 27 "high-risk" states will be required to self-quarantine for two weeks upon arriving in the District.
  • In a reversal from the University's original plan to conduct a hybrid semester for the fall, officials announced that all courses will be held remotely for the entire semester, and only selected students with "extenuating" academic or personal circumstances. Off-campus undergraduates will also receive a 10 percent discount on tuition.
  • The three storage companies GW partnered with will be in touch with students throughout "the coming weeks" to make arrangements for students to reclaim their belongings.
  • The University announced it plans to cut seven of its sport teams at the conclusion of the 2020-21 season as GW's shortfall this fiscal year is expected to reach at least $200 million.
  • Officials have exhausted two emergency student aid funds after distributing almost $10 million in financial assistance but say they plan to provide more aid "as more funds become available."
