Colonial Health Center cancels scheduled counseling appointments

Counseling and Psychological Services has canceled all scheduled appointments starting Monday until April 5 to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Emergency or crisis walk-in consultations are available Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Merriweather Hall on the Mount Vernon Campus or Monday through Friday during business hours and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Colonial Health Center, according to an email staff clinician Shatiea Blount sent Friday. Students can call the CHC for “brief, consultative support” from a counselor at any hour, but licensing laws prohibit distance counseling, the email states.

Students experiencing a “psychiatric emergency” should call 911 or visit the emergency room, according to the email.

“I acknowledge that this can be a very challenging time that requires a lot of adjustments, and I appreciate your understanding and flexibility,” Blount said in the email.
