A pedestrian died near campus Wednesday after a driver struck him along Virginia Avenue Wednesday, marking the second traffic death in Foggy Bottom in less than a month.

MPD spokesperson Brianna Burch said the crash took place on the 2100 block of Virginia Avenue, located near the CVS by the southern end of the Foggy Bottom Campus. She said the pedestrian, an adult man, was pronounced dead in hospital care after MPD officers found him unconscious and not breathing at the sceneĀ at 4:11 p.m.

The man appeared to be crossing the street when he was struck, but it was unclear whether he was crossing at an intersection, according to a Washington Post report.

The crash comes two weeks after cyclist Shawn O’DonnellĀ died when the driver of a construction vehicle struck and killed her a few blocks north at the corner of 21st and I streets.

D.C. lawmakers are looking for answers to what has been a nonstop trend of traffic fatalities in the District. The D.C. Council’s transportation committee approved legislation last month that would prohibit vehicles from making right turns on red lights and allow bikers to treat stop signs as yield signs.
