The Avenir Foundation donated $5 million to update the conservation facility for the George Washington University Museum and Textile Museum.
A $500,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation will be used to create a new curator position at the George Washington University Museum and The Textile Museum.
The Textile Museum’s newest exhibit “Old Patterns, New Order: Socialist Realism in Central Asia” opened on Oct. 10 and runs until May 29, free of charge.
Bonnie Morris, a professor of women’s studies, led a seminar at the Textile Museum where she discussed the history of women’s music movements.
The building that used to hold the thousand-year-old rugs and maps that the GW Museum and Textile Museum now displays sold for $19 million on Thursday, according to a University release.
The museum, which officially opened this weekend, has over 19,000 textiles and carpets.
More than 100 students attended student night at The Textile Museum on Monday evening, an event hosted by the Student Association, Program Board, Class Council and the Residence Hall Association. A museum full of 5,000-year-old rugs may not be the first place that comes to mind as an ideal location for a student hub, but the University is hoping to convince you otherwise.
The museum has dedicated community space and staffers at the museum will host programs to help students engage with the artifacts.
The GW Museum and Textile Museum earned the second-highest sustainability rating from a leading environmental organization.
