Led by Mills’ 17 points, the Explorers sliced through GW’s 1-3-1 zone defense, which Lonergan went to when forward Kevin Larsen quickly got into foul trouble.
The conference, after a few years of realignment, has proven formidable. Five A-10 teams, including GW, are in the top 50 in Ratings Percentage Index, which adjusts teams’ ranking for strength of schedule.
GW’s balanced offensive attack waltzed around Georgia (6-6) defenders, made possible by seven rebounds from forward Isaiah Armwood, and six apiece by sophomore Patricio Garino and Savage.
