The Hatchet reviews three new indie film offerings

Focus Celebrated photographer Neal Slavin makes his directing debut with Focus, creating a retro, eerie feel that captures the viewer and allows a look into the mind of Lawrence Newman (William H. Macy). Based on a novel written in 1945 by Arthur Miller, Focus could not be more timely. It is a thought-provoking fable about […]

Features: Students share ‘sexiled’ stories

As Sophomore Hala Rharrit turned the key to the door of her Fulbright Hall room, she was startled by a screaming voice – her roommate frantically asking her to wait before she came in. Rharrit got the hint. Her roommate had her boyfriend over and she could not enter her room – she was “sexiled.” […]

Farrellys lose vulgarity

When you fall in love with someone for the first time, what do you fall in love with: physical or inner beauty? In Shallow Hal, the Farrelly brother’s latest creation, Hal Larsen (Jack Black) is only able to see beauty on the outside. Hal gets stuck in an elevator with self-help guru Tony Robbins (played […]

Area university bathrooms attract ‘cruisers’

GW is not the only D.C. university experiencing lewd activity in its bathrooms. According to Cruisingforsex.com, the same Web site that lists GW bathrooms as prime sites for sexual activity, three American University bathrooms and two Georgetown University bathrooms are considered very “cruisy.” The first floor of Georgetown’s Lauinger Library is described in an August […]

Rosey knows sports: A ring-leader for the Wizards

The similarities are eerie. A quick glance at Michael Jordan’s stats from the first game in his second comeback last week in New York closely resemble his stats from his his first game in his first. That night in 1995 against the Indiana Pacers Jordan played 38 minutes, scored 19 on 7-for-28 shooting with six […]

As I See It: Doth the SA protest too much?

This year, a familiar fall pattern emerged on campus. The GW Hatchet, for one reason or the other, decided to write a staff editorial about the Student Association. Unlike in past years, the editorial brought a strong rebuke from SA President Roger Kapoor and his top lieutenant, Chief of Staff Joe Ardito. This rebuke was […]

Monroe, Forchion picked in pre-season polls

Chris Monroe was named second-team All Conference and freshman Tamal Forchion was named to the All-Rookie team in a pre-season poll conducted Monday by Atlantic 10 coaches and media. St. Joseph’s and Xavier were selected to win the A-10 East and West, respectively. GW was picked to finish fifth in the West.

Blankvoort earns Performer of the Week

Thomas Blankvoort was named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week after his two-over-par 146 (70-76) at last weekend’s Old Dominion Seascape Collegiate. Blankvoort, who tied for 16th place at Seascape, has been GW’s low scorer in six consecutive tournaments. Blankvoort leads the Colonials with a 72.3 stroke average. He has five top 20 finishes in […]

Letter to the Editor: 4-RIDE or 4-WAIT?

I read with some interest “SA opposes fee” (Nov. 5, p. 1), in which University Police Department Director Dolores Stafford claims she received no complaints regarding 4-RIDE service this semester. Perhaps UPD does not check their e-mail, because after my experience with them roughly two weeks ago, I certainly made a complaint. On my way […]

Colonial Women earn pre-season honors

Defending champion Temple and the runner-up Colonials have been picked to win the women’s basketball Atlantic 10 East and West respectively, the conference announced Monday. The Colonials return four starters, including A-10 Rookie of the Year Ugo Oha, and will debut this season ranked 20th in the nation by the Associated Press. A-10 coaches selected […]
