From Campus to Career — The Hatchet’s Fall Conference
When: Saturday, October 14th, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Marvin Center, 800 21st St. NW
The Hatchet’s conference brings students interested in media and professional journalists together for a day of learning and discussion. At our conference, you’ll hear from experienced D.C. bureau chiefs, reporters, producers and digital storytellers. You will have the chance to learn how to make it in media, and how to put your education to use in the real world. We’re taking our learning experience from the classroom to future careers.
Every year The Hatchet brings in a keynote speaker to address the conference. This year Washington Post investigative journalist and SMPA professor Debbie Cenziper will moderate a conversation with our keynote speaker, Bloomberg News D.C. Bureau Chief Wes Kosova.
Then our moderated panel discussion will include the voices of congressional reporters, international reporters, producers and national news reporters. You’ll get an in-depth look at how young journalists have made it, and how you can too. Moderated by Professor Nikki Usher, our panel will give you the behind the scenes look at media careers.
Here are our panelists:
– Kate Bennett, CNN’s White House reporter
– Justin Peligri, AtlanticLIVE’s associate producer
– Hadas Gold, CNN’s reporter on Europe
Students will then participate in one of four breakout sessions:
- Resume and LinkedIn Workshop
- POLITICO Presents: Digital Storytelling
- Alumni Panel
- Journalism Jump: From High School to College
