Readers’ pick: Jumbo Slice Pizza

Jumbo pizza slices are a familiar favorite for D.C. residents, but for the tastiest and most convenient big slice, head to Jumbo Slice Pizza in the center of Adams Morgan’s nightclub scene.

Located in the middle of 18th Street, Jumbo Slice Pizza offers a wide variety of jumbo slices that will satisfy your pizza cravings at any hour of the night. The very definition of a late night locale, the shop opens each day at 5 p.m. and closes at 3 a.m. on weekdays and 4 a.m. on weekends, making it the best pizza shop to grab a late-night big slice between clubs or on the tail-end of a night out.

Jumbo Slice Pizza welcomes its customers in with a red awning. Tiles on the wall spell out “Pizza City” – in case anyone forgot why they were there.

The slices themselves are truly jumbo – measuring just more than a foot, each slice provides a meal in and of itself. Each slice comes in its own box wrapped in tin foil.

Customers can choose from cheese ($7), pepperoni ($8), buffalo chicken, meatlovers, Hawaiian and supreme ($10). The restaurant also offers appetizers like french fries ($3.50) and buffalo wings ($6.99 to $11.99).

Customers can choose to eat their doughy slices under the glow of a blue Pepsi clock and amid the black-and-white tiled floor on one of the counters that line the room. Alternatively, you can enjoy the cheesy slices on the street, an especially popular spot the later the night gets.

Another benefit of the jumbo slice: it’s large enough that after a few bites, it can be folded into a calzone to get twice the pizza with every bite.

There is just one flaw at the home of the District’s first and possibly largest jumbo pizza slice – the pizza is extra greasy, yet the napkin dispensers are all empty.

But, if you can look past your greasy hands, it’s hard to find a better spot for a late-night meal than Jumbo Slice Pizza.
