D.C. FEMS spokesperson Vito Maggiolo said one car appeared to catch fire before the flames spread to the other two vehicles at the scene, which smelled of gasoline.

Three cars caught fire outside One Washington Circle Hotel Tuesday night.

D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesperson Vito Maggiolo said the cars, parked at the intersection of 22nd and L streets, caught fire at about 7:35 p.m. He said the fire appeared to start in one car before the flames spread to the other two vehicles at the scene, which smelled of gasoline.

Residents of One Washington Circle said they were not evacuated. An awning for the Circle Bistro, the restaurant inside the hotel, was also slightly damaged in the fire.

Three fire engines and six police cars were seen near the site, and Metropolitan Police Department officers blocked traffic on New Hampshire Avenue near the site of the fire.
