CCAS officials approve Asian American studies minor after student push

Columbian College of Arts and Sciences administrators approved a minor in Asian American studies last week after nearly three years of student advocacy for its implementation.

Students can declare the minor starting next semester, University spokesperson Crystal Nosal said. CCAS officials initiated “a vetting process” last November for the new minor after students launched a petition and the Student Association Senate passed a resolution in October calling for the program.

Nosal said the minor is currently being routed through the course system. The minor’s course requirements include classes like Japanese Culture Through Film, History of Modern China, The Sixties in America and Intro to Asian American Studies through Literature, according to an Instagram post from the Asian American Student Association Saturday.

“Thank you to everyone for your continuous support for the Asian American studies minor at GW over the past semester,” the post states.
