Crime log: Student of Asian heritage harassed by racially insensitive insults

While on routine patrol, GW Police Department officers observed a male student urinating in public. After verifying the student’s identity and enrollment, officers sent the student on his way.

Traffic Accident: Hit and Run

While retrieving gas for a GWPD vehicle off campus, two officers were approached by a man who explained that a vehicle struck him while he was walking on the bridge. The subject could not identify the vehicle or explain the accident in detail. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services responders and Metropolitan Police Department officers arrived on scene and filed a report.

Liquor Law Violation

Shenkman Hall
3/20/2021 – 2:41 a.m.
Closed Case

GWPD officers responded to Shenkman Hall for a report of a sick female student. The student said consuming alcohol was the reason for her illness. D.C. FEMS responders arrived on scene and transported the woman to the GW Hospital emergency room.

A female student of Asian heritage reported she was the victim of an unknown male subject yelling non-threatening, racially insensitive insults as she crossed his path.

Liquor Law Violation

South Hall
3/21/2021 – 1:02 a.m.
Closed Case

GWPD officers and D.C. FEMS paramedics responded to an intoxicated non-GW affiliated female subject in a South Hall room. D.C. FEMS responders evaluated the subject and cleared her of needing any treatment. GWPD officers issued the woman a bar notice and escorted her off the property.

Theft II/From Building

Mitchell Hall (7-Eleven)
3/21/2021 – 7:14 a.m.
Closed Case

GWPD officers responded to a report of theft at 7-Eleven. Upon arrival, they made contact with a male complainant who stated that an unknown male subject stole cleaning sprays. GWPD officers canvassed the area with negative findings.

– No identifiable subject.

A female staff member reported her laptop charger stolen.

A female staff member reported that an unknown person submitted fraudulent purchase orders to off-campus businesses under her identity. The University did not incur any financial loss.
