Foggy Bottom, VSTC campuses to close Sunday ahead of snowstorm

The Foggy Bottom and Virginia Science and Technology campuses will shut down for “most in-person activities” Sunday ahead of a snowstorm expected in the District.

In a GW Alert issued Saturday, officials said the COVID-19 testing center at the Marvin Center and all campus libraries will be closed Sunday when snow is expected to start falling around 3 to 4 a.m. The alert states snowfall will “become steadier” by mid-morning and continue through the afternoon before turning into a mix of snow, sleet or freezing rain around 5 or 6 p.m., followed by rain or freezing rain after 11 p.m.

The Washington Post reported the incoming snowstorm could be the largest in two years and could last until Tuesday.

“Those who do have to travel during the day should allow extra time to reach their destination and travel cautiously,” the alert states. “Our dedicated facilities team members will work throughout the day to treat the paved surfaces on our campuses for your safety.”

Students with COVID-19 testing appointments at the Marvin Center Sunday should reschedule their test for the next available time slot when the site reopens, according to the alert.

GW Emergency Management staff members will share an update about the University’s Monday operations by 5 p.m. Sunday while continuing to check on the weather, the alert states.
