Battle has served as one of GW’s main sources of offensive production, averaging 11.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

Freshman forward Jamison Battle was named to the 2020 Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team, according to a release Tuesday.

Men’s basketball has waited 11 years for an All-Rookie selection after 2013-graduate guard Lasan Kromah earned the honor during the 2008-09 season. Battle has served as one of GW’s main sources of offensive production, averaging 11.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.

The freshman is the only Colonial on the men’s side to nab a conference award. Redshirt freshman Mayowa Taiwo received the nomination to the A-10 All-Rookie Team on the women’s side last week.

Battle joins four other freshmen, including Davidson forward and guard Hyunjung Lee, Massachusetts center Tre Mitchell, Saint Louis guard Yuri Collins and VCU guard Nah’Shon “Bones” Hyland.

He tallied the second-most points on the team (377), finishing behind redshirt senior guard Armel Potter (411). He also averaged the second-most minutes per game (35.3) behind junior guard Maceo Jack (35.8).

Battle has helped execute one of the Colonials’ main offensive tools: three point shooting. He ranks in the top 15 of A-10 players in outside shooting accuracy, netting a triple in every game this season. He owns GW’s record for triples made in a single season, hitting 89 from behind the arc.

Alongside fellow freshman forward Chase Paar and guard Jameer Nelson Jr., the young trio formed the core of the regular starting lineup during conference play. Earlier in the season, Battle and Nelson Jr., who room together, said their ability to work together has pushed them on the court.

GW finished its season Wednesday, making a first round exit in the A-10 tournament. The squad dropped their third game of the season to Fordham 72–52.
