Del Popolo Seasonal Pizza Kitchen, a wood-fired pizza restaurant, has replaced 7th Hill Pizza’s Palisades location, which shuttered last semester.

A new pizza joint moved into the Mount Vernon Campus last month.

University Spokeswoman Crystal Nosal said Del Popolo Seasonal Pizza Kitchen, a wood-fired pizza restaurant, has replaced 7th Hill Pizza’s Palisades location, which shuttered last semester. Nosal said officials are in “discussions” with the new restaurant’s owner about accepting GWorld.

“The University is also actively working with other restaurants and fast-casual food businesses in the Palisades neighborhood,” she said.

The switch comes amid a flurry of changes to dining options on and near the Mount Vernon Campus. The University added a shuttle service to the Georgetown Safeway and a la carte meal options to the Vern’s dining hall, Pelham Commons, after the Palisades Safeway closed last spring.

“Based on student feedback, Higher Grounds is also in the process of adding convenience store items to their selection,” Nosal said. “These items will include both packaged food items like frozen pizzas, soups, milk and eggs as well as personal and non-food items such as laundry detergent and aspirin.”

Reza Vakili, the Del Popolo owner, said he was excited to move into Seventh Hill Pizza’s location after he heard that the restaurant was interested in selling the property.

“Having attended Georgetown University, and having spent nearly 40 years in the restaurant industry, I am intimately familiar with the area and its vibrant community,” Vakili said in an email.

He said he is planning to participate in the GWorld system to form connections with the students.

“As for the GWorld system, we want to develop relationships with as many local organizations as possible, including all of the area universities and schools, because we aspire to be a communal gathering spot for the neighborhood,” Vakili said in an email.
