Disability Support Services director to depart after 16 years

The director of Disability Support Services will leave GW at the end of the month, according to an email sent Thursday.

Susan McMenamin will step down at the end of January after working at GW for 16 years, and a search for a new head will begin Feb. 1, the email states. Alisa Major, the associate director of DSS, will serve as the interim director while a search is underway, according to the email.

“During her time here at GW, Susan has been the primary point of contact for administrators, faculty, students and their families regarding reasonable accommodation and accessibility,” the email states. “Susan brought a strong and diverse background to her work, serving as an advocate for both student needs and the preservation of academic standards.”

The number of students using DSS has continually increased over the past several years under McMenamin. The DSS office also went under review in 2017 to determine whether the office had sufficient staff and resources to support students registered with the office.
