GW Hospital patient receives $40,000 settlement for lost jewelry

A female GW Hospital patient received a $40,000 settlement check this week after hospital staff lost her jewelry following a surgery, WJLA reported Wednesday.

The patient claimed that her rings went missing after she underwent surgery at the hospital, WJLA reported. Hospital officials said they disposed of the rings after they were unsuccessful in their yearlong effort to contact the patient after finding the rings, according to WJLA.

“When the individual eventually reached out to GW Hospital this year, we offered to pay her the full appraised value for her rings,” hospital officials told WJLA.

Another patient, Queen Wiseman, told WJLA that hospital staff lost her diamond wedding rings. Wiseman is currently in contact with hospital officials to resolve her case, WJLA reported.

“It wasn’t until after I got home that night when my finger started itching at night and I went to scratch it and it woke me up because I suddenly realized my rings were gone,” Wiseman said.
