The first weekend of 2020 is teeming with events around the District. Start your year off right by exploring the northern lights at ARTECHOUSE, get your groove on at the Kennedy Center, and end your weekend at the final showing of a D.C. theater performance.

Friday

AURORA: The Spirit of Northern Lights

Watch the aurora borealis, also called the northern lights, at the ARTECHOUSE before it closes Sunday. The immersive experience allows you to admire the Alaskan polar lights right in D.C. with the help of technology. Explore an interactive world where you can shape frost and move light with body movement and walk through interactive displays of an ice cavern, frosted forest and dancing skies. You can use the code “AEF10” for 10 percent off your admission.

ARTECHOUSE, 128 Maryland Ave. SW, 10 a.m to 5 p.m., tickets are $20.

Saturday

Dance Fitness: The Bollywood Workout

Did you make a New Year’s resolution to get active? Head to the Kennedy Center for a high-intensity fitness program. For 55 minutes, you will learn to dance to the music of 11 South Asian songs. Each routine focuses on working out a different area of your body. The class ends with stretching and reflection.

The REACH at the Kennedy Center, 2700 F St. NW. Class begins at 11:30 a.m. $10.

Sunday

The Second City’s “She the People: The Resistance Continues!”

The show’s final appearance in the District hits the stage Sunday.
