California representative admitted to GW Hospital for chest pain

Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., was admitted to the GW Hospital for chest pain Monday evening.

Lieu underwent a stent surgery after doctors found a partially blocked artery, Chief of Staff Marc Cevasco said in a statement Wednesday. Lieu is in “good spirits” and plans to return to Congress next week, Cevasco said.

“He is now recovering and will likely be discharged from the hospital later today,” Cevasco said. “Congressman Lieu is deeply grateful to all the dedicated professionals at the [Office of Attending Physician] and GW University Hospital.”

Lieu serves as a member of the House Judiciary Committee, which introduced two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump Tuesday as part of an inquiry into his conversations with Ukrainian government officials.
