Baseball unveils 2020 schedule

Head coach Gregg Ritchie announced baseball’s full schedule for the 2020 season Wednesday.

After finishing the 2019 season with a 30–24 record, the Colonials are looking to return to the Atlantic 10 Championship for the first time since the team’s historic run in 2018. While the team hosted 32 home games last season at Tucker Field, the Colonials will play just 27 games at home during the 2020 season.

Last season’s squad excelled at home – winning 21 of 32 games – but struggled on the road, racking up nine wins and 13 losses.

The team will begin the year Feb. 14 in Thibodaux, La., where it will face SIUE and Nicholls State. The Colonials will play their first home game against cross-town rival Georgetown Feb. 18, marking the start of a six-game homestand against Marist, UMBC and Coppin State.

The Colonials will return to Tucker Field in early March to start an eight-game homestand against William and Mary, Monmouth, Towson and NJIT between March 3 and 14.

Conference action will begin with a home weekend series against Saint Louis starting March 20. The Colonials last met the Billikens in the final series of the 2018 season, dropping two of three games.

The squad went 11–13 in conference play last season, its first losing A-10 record since 2014.

In mid-April, the squad will travel to the Bronx for a three-game series against the reigning A-10 champion Fordham. To close out the regular season, the Colonials will travel to North Carolina for a three-game series against Davidson from May 14 to 16.

The squad lost two powerhouses – shortstop Nate Fassnacht and utility player Dom D’Alessandro – to the MLB draft over the summer. In the A-10, the pair ranked in the top-five in hits, RBI, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and home runs.

GW will add 13 new players to its roster this season, along with the additions of Tim Dold and Ryan Smoot to serve as the director of baseball operations and the volunteer assistant coach, respectively.
