The D.C. Department of Health temporarily closed the Starbucks at Gelman Library Thursday after the building lost hot water.

Dan Hunt, the manager of the Starbucks, said the location shut down in the early afternoon because of a “building maintenance issue.” He said the cafe would reopen “later on today.”

Alison Reeves, a spokeswoman for the health department, said the Starbucks was allowed to reopen Thursday evening after a sanitarian conducted an inspection and confirmed that the cafe had hot water.

“The business license was subsequently restored and Starbucks was permitted to resume operations,” she said.

Nia Lartey contributed reporting.
