University President Thomas LeBlanc said Thursday that officials “stand ready” to assist students, faculty and staff who may be affected by the Trump administration’s travel ban.

University President Thomas LeBlanc released a statement Monday condemning the “hate and bigotry” he said motived a shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh Saturday.

“The hate and bigotry that motivated the attack is abhorrent and has no place in our society,” he said in the statement. “At the same time, we mourn and stand in solidarity with the Jewish community in Pittsburgh and in our own GW community.”

The shooting made national headlines Saturday morning when a gunman entered the Tree of Life synagogue, killing 11 people and injuring six others, The Washington Post reported Sunday.

Students gathered in Kogan Plaza Monday afternoon to hold a moment of silence in memory of the victims.

LeBlanc said members of GW Hillel will travel to Pittsburgh Tuesday “to attend services and lend support.”

“We know that members of our own community may be personally affected by this horrific event,” he said. “We must be present for those who may be in need and offer our condolences and support.”
