GWPD, MPD respond to assault near Amsterdam Hall

A woman was assaulted Sunday night outside of Amsterdam Hall, according to a GW Alert sent just before 10 p.m.

At 9:38 p.m., a female reported that an unknown suspect grabbed her by the arm and shook her. The suspect – a thin white man wearing no shirt – was last seen heading north on 24th Street, the alert states. No additional information was available about the victim at the time of the alert.

Both GW and Metropolitan police departments were on the scene investigating and canvassing the area for the suspect, according to the alert.

The alert advised students to avoid the area and said they should call 911 or the GW emergency line if they spot the individual or have any information about the incident.

A spokesperson for MPD did not immediately return a request for comment. University spokeswoman Lindsay Hamilton said she did not have any additional information about the incident at this time.

Sarah Roach contributed reporting.
