Police make arrest in Foggy Bottom sexual assault case

Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested a man Thursday that they believe committed four sexual assaults in Northwest D.C., including an incident in Foggy Bottom May 31.

Santiago Rodriguez Campos, 34, of Alexandria, Va., was charged with three counts of misdemeanor sexual abuse and one count of first-degree sexual abuse, according to an MPD release Friday.

Two of the incidents occurred in 2016, while two others were reported earlier this year. In the Foggy Bottom incident, Campos allegedly approached a woman from behind and grabbed her buttocks at 25th and I streets. During the most recent incident, which was reported June 3, a woman was also approached from behind and sexually assaulted on the 1500 block of P Street NW.

Police had previously said the Foggy Bottom incident could be related to five other sexual assaults in the area in late May and early June.

Both 2016 incidents involved sexual assaults in the Georgetown area, according to the release.
