House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, D-Md., was admitted to GW Hospital earlier this week and diagnosed with pneumococcal pneumonia, CNN reported Wednesday.
Hoyer, 79, was admitted Tuesday and is expected to make a full recovery, according to CNN.
Katie Grant, a spokeswoman for Hoyer, the second-highest-ranking Democrat in the House of Representatives, said the congressman is resting and being treated with antibiotics.
“He looks forward to being back at work very soon,” Grant said in a statement.
GW Hospital spokeswoman Susan Griffiths declined to comment, citing patient privacy.
