Man arrested near campus for throwing bleach in woman’s eyes

A man was arrested near campus Thursday after he attempted to rob a woman and blind her with bleach, according to a Metropolitan Police Department report.

At about 1:50 p.m., Ashanti McMickin, 41, approached a woman in front of the Square 54 developments and demanded her purse. He then threw bleach into the woman’s eyes, the police report states.

The woman then fled down 23rd Street near the Foggy Bottom Metro station, and a witness reported seeing McMickin chasing after her, according to the report.

MPD officers then placed McMickin under arrest on charges of robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon. He was then transported to the Second District police station for processing, the report states.

A preliminary hearing for McMickin is scheduled for later this month, according to court documents.
