The Foggy Bottom and West End Advisory Neighborhood Commission will vote on an agreement with the hospital at a special meeting Thursday that could clear the way for the helipad to be constructed.

GW Hospital received an award from multiple national associations for its “commitment to providing the most appropriate” stroke treatment, according to a release from the hospital Monday.

The award – which is the “highest stroke recognition possible” – recognizes the center’s compliance with research-based guidelines for stroke care and was given to the hospital by the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association, according to the release.

To qualify for the award, GW Hospital had to reduce the time between a patient’s initial arrival and the issuance of a treatment promoting blood flow, according to the release.

The release states that the award is presented to hospitals with a compliance rate of 85 percent or higher for two or more consecutive years and a 75 percent or higher compliance rate with five of the eight total quality measures.

Kimberly Russo, the chief executive officer and managing director of GW Hospital, said in the release the hospital’s stroke team is constantly “pushing the needle” to provide the best care.

“We are honored to achieve this recognition representing our steadfast commitment to providing the highest quality stroke care,” Russo said in the release. “I look forward to our team continuing its impressive efforts in providing the highest quality stroke care for the entire D.C. region.”
