Location: 1915 I St. NW
Readers’ pick: Retail therapy on M Street

If you’re looking for some mid-week relaxation, treat yourself with a trip to Mimosa Salon on I Street.

The salon is substantially less crowded Monday through Wednesday, and they offer happy hour prices to entice customers into getting a manicure or pedicure on those days. Offering nail care, waxing, massaging and facials, Mimosa Salon has everything you need to treat yourself.

After you pick a nail color, you are seated with a complimentary beverage of water, champagne or a mimosa – it’s up to you. Your manicurist will take off old polish and quickly get to work shaping and filing your nails. Get a regular polish manicure for $15, a regular polish pedicure for $30 or upgrade to gel polish manicure for $32.

You can grab a Happy Hour Nail Special, such as a gel manicure for $25 instead of the regular price, or a normal pedicure for just $25. At Mimosa Salon on I Street, you can drink for no extra charge, so arrive prepared to sip on champagne or a mimosa while you treat yourself to a wide selection of colorful nails. Unfortunately the salon does not accept GWorld, but their services are comparable to prices at other Foggy Bottom salons, if not slightly cheaper.

Though some Yelp reviewers of the I Street location have said the services felt rushed, the salon was not busy during my 6 p.m. Tuesday visit. My manicurist took her time in asking what nail shape I wanted and made sure my nails dried properly.

Visiting before 5 p.m., when most Foggy Bottom work gets out, would likely yield even faster service. Regular hours are from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., except for Sundays when the salon closes at 7 p.m.

If you really want to treat yourself, the salon has massage options ranging from $45 to $125, which include Swedish, deep tissue and hot stone varieties.

Whatever you choose, you know that a short stop at Mimosa Salon will alleviate all your academic tensions.
