Police blocked off parts of 22nd and G streets to investigate a report of a suspicious package Friday.

The Metropolitan Police Department blocked off two streets on campus Friday to investigate two unattended suitcases left on the corner of G and 22nd streets, police said.

Eric Edwards, the audio visual specialist at MPD, said the department received a call reporting the suspicious package at 12:48 p.m.

GW sent out an alert at 1:48 p.m. warning the community to avoid the area as they investigate “an incident.” At about that time, police began blocking off parts of 22nd and G streets to traffic and limiting pedestrian traffic in the area. The University Police Department was also on the scene.

About 40 minutes later, GW sent out another alert that the streets were reopened and the police activity had been cleared.
