The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority fare system will no longer permit riders to complete rides on the bus or subway with a negative balance on SmarTrip cards.

The Foggy Bottom Metro station is now offering free Wi-Fi for riders.

Metro added 24 stations – including Foggy Bottom – to its free Wi-Fi program Thursday, expanding the number of Wi-Fi-enabled stations to 30, according to a Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority release.

The agency, which oversees Metro, began the free Wi-Fi program in April at six stations: Metro Center, Gallery Place, L’Enfant Plaza, Judiciary Square, Union Station and Archives. Riders at the Farragut North, Farragut West and DuPont Circle stations can also access Wi-Fi beginning Thursday, according to the release.

All remaining underground stations will be connected by mid-2018, according to the release.
