Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream opened on 14th Street Monday and will give out free scoops as part of its grand opening next week.

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams — a well-known Midwestern artisan ice cream shop — made its D.C. debut Monday and will hand out free scoops for its grand opening next week.

Jeni’s, located at 1925 14th St. NW, opened its doors Monday and will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m, according to the company’s website. The new, two-floor scoop shop, which is the company’s 32nd location, will also host a grand opening Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.

During the grand opening, Jeni’s will scoop free ice cream at their 14th Street shop. The first 50 people in line will also get a free Jeni’s swag bag.

“No one gets turned away — the team will be there scooping until the last guest is served,” Lana Rodriguez, a representative of Jeni’s PR company, YC Media, said.

Prior to the grand opening of the 14th St. location, a Jeni’s ice cream truck will be stopping around all different parts of D.C. to scoop free ice cream, according to Rodriguez. The Jeni’s truck is scheduled to be in Kogan Plaza Oct. 5 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. to serve students and faculty. The flavors on the truck will include salty caramel, darkest chocolate, vanilla and brambleberry crisp.

Rodriguez said Jeni’s has been “nurturing a community of customers” online in the District for about as long as they have been in business. Jeni’s started about 15 years ago.

“D.C. has been one our top markets for our online business going all the way back to when we first started shipping ice cream cross the country in 2004,” she said.

There will be around 20 flavors at this location including Jeni’s signature roasted strawberry with buttermilk, churro and brambleberry crisp, the Washington Post reported.
