Suspect stole more than $21,000 from CVS, police say

A suspect stole more than $21,000 from CVS located near 21st and I streets Monday night, causing the store to temporarily close, according to police.

Two witnesses reported that just before 9:30 p.m., a suspect walked into CVS through an entrance to The Shops at 2000 Penn mall – where the store is located – with a large black duffle bag, according to a Metropolitan Police Department report.

The suspect walked directly to a safe located in the manager’s office and stuffed $21,519.70 in cash into the bag before leaving the store and exiting through the mall, according to the report.

The incident was classified as a second-degree burglary, according to the report.

The report does not state whether the suspect was a store employee. MPD spokeswoman Aquita Brown said in an email that police do not have “any updates regarding the suspect.”

She said police have not made an arrest, and the incident is still under investigation.
