Man arrested for unlawful entry, warrant for theft

A man arrested for unlawful entry on campus Sunday already had avoided appearing in court after being charged with theft, according to a Metropolitan Police Department report.

University Police Department officers Jeffrey Kerch and Bernard Hartner arrested Marcel Brannum in Shenkman Hall at approximately 11 a.m. after Kerch noticed Brannum and remembered barring him from University property last month, the report states.

After MPD arrived on the scene, a query took place at the request of the MPD officer, which showed Brannum had a warrant for a theft charge, according to the report.

While being transported to the Second District station, Brannum voluntarily said he stole the bike to get money and to get home after being kicked out of his girlfriend’s home, according to the public narrative in the report attributed to Kerch.

Brannum is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 21 regarding the misdemeanor and Feb. 23 about the unlawful entry.
