Baseball jousts away the rain

GW baseball was scheduled to start its home opener at 3:30 p.m. against Delaware State.

Around 3 p.m., GW seniors Andy Young and Gabe Scott took to some fairly-rainy day tennis play.

As word got around that the tarp wasn’t coming off and that start time would be pushed to at least 4:05 p.m., things got interesting.

Delaware State began some two-on-two basketball down the first baseline.

Then, Delaware State looked for some new competition. A player got his teammate’s back with his jousting equipment (catcher’s mask and baseball bat), and pointed to the GW dugout.

After a couple of minutes and some preparation in the Colonials’ dugout, freshman backup catcher Camillo Spinoso and junior infielder Cody Bryant came out to duel.

The rest is rain delay history, a new addition to a storied college baseball legacy, like with Radford last year.

The current start is slated for 4:45 p.m. For now, enjoy the jousting.
