Couples hoping to get Valentine’s Day flowers at the Shops at 2000 Penn saw their hopes dashed when a florist in the complex closed this month.

University spokeswoman Maralee Csellar said in an email that Chateau Florist “ceased operating in February for unknown reasons.”

She said there have been no rent increases for the property since early 2015, when the shop began operating on a month-to-month lease.

No contact information was available for the shop’s owner, and multiple calls to the store’s phone number went unanswered.

The flower shop is at least the seventh business in the shopping center to shut down in the past decade. Smaller, older shops within the area have been struggling financially for years because of competition from larger chains moving into the area.
