The first openly transgender person to be nominated for an Emmy in an acting category is speaking at GW next month.

Laverne Cox, an actress and television producer who stars in “Orange is the New Black” on Netflix and her VH1 show “TRANSform Me,” will speak at Lisner Auditorium on March 31 for International Transgender Day of Visibility. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., a half hour before the event begins.

Tickets will go on sale Tuesday, Feb. 3 at noon and are free to students who present their GWorld cards at the box office. General admission tickets are $10.

An LGBT advocate, Cox was the first transgender individual to appear on the cover of Time magazine.
