Men’s basketball receives votes in AP Top 25 poll

Men’s basketball received seven votes in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll released Monday, the first time the Colonials have received votes since the first week of the regular season.

The seven votes ties with the most GW has received all year, matching the number the team earned in the preseason poll.

The number ties GW with LSU for fifth-most among teams not ranked but still receiving votes, with TCU (132), VCU (101), San Diego State (40) and Arkansas (27) being the only unranked teams to earn more.

The boost comes after the Colonials topped then-No. 11 Wichita State on Thursday in the finals of the Diamond Head Classic in Hawaii. The Shockers fell five spots to No. 16 in the poll.

The AP Top 25 is compiled by polling 65 sportswriters and broadcasters from across the country. Each voter makes a list ranking the best 25 teams, and the lists are combined by awarding each team 25 points for a first-place vote, 24 for a second-place vote and so on down to one point for a 25th-place vote.
