The Hatchet is hiring an advertising director

The GW Hatchet, an independent student newspaper, is seeking to hire a highly motivated, innovative and creative individual to serve as its advertising director.

Candidates must have marketing/business advertising experience with a track record of success and increasing responsibilities. The position will be located in a newly-renovated four-story office space on campus and is paid, with a base salary and sales commissions. The advertising director will hire and manage sales staff, and work closely with business office and editorial staff to expand the company’s print, online and social media advertising presence.

Duties:
– Hire and manage student sales account executives

– Weekly meetings with business office and editorial staff

– Maintain advertising relationships with national advertising agencies

– Expand existing advertising relationships with University and student organizations

– Significantly broaden local retail advertising relationships with area bars, restaurants, and events organizers

– Develop and market special print and online editions

– Create and test new sales strategies and pricing formulas for new online and social media advertising products

– Develop sales leads and create ad sales incentives for new clients

– Participate with editorial and business staff in refining online content strategies

– Plan and organize marketing events, including partnering opportunities with other media outlets in the metropolitan D.C. region

– Responsible for maintaining and updating media kit and marketing materials

Requirements:
– Current undergraduate or graduate student at GW

– Business sales experience

– Ability to think both creatively and strategically

– Excellent communications skills

– Strong work ethic and ambition

Salary:
– Base salary plus commission

– Possibility of GW academic credit as an externship
