As if this Spring Fling with headliner Macklemore wasn’t epic enough, the event produced one of Mashable’s 16 most legendary selfies of the year.

The selfie was featured in the same slideshow as Sasha and Malia’s Inauguration antics and Beyonce’s new hair cut.

During Macklemore’s performance, an audacious GW student threw her phone onto the stage and the Seattle-based rapper quickly proceeded to snap this selfie.

The selfie has be elevated to an art form in 2013. “Selfie” was even named the Oxford Dictionary’s word of the year.

As any social media maven knows, taking a selfie isn’t as simple as switching the view on your phone’s camera. A truly outstanding photo requires careful thought and consideration towards camera angle, facial expression, and, of course, flitter selection.

The ability to grace a list of the most impressive selfies of the year call for pure artistic and pop-culture genius – or the balls to throw your phone onstage at Spring Fling.
