Hatchet wins 10 regional awards

This photo of the media asking Sgt. David Schlosser when the U.S. Park Police would evict the Occupy D.C. encampment in McPherson Square, by Hatchet staff photographer Freddo Lin, is a finalist for a regional Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists.

The Hatchet is a finalist in 10 categories for the regional Mark of Excellence awards, including best website and best all-around non-daily student newspaper, the Society of Professional Journalists announced Wednesday.

The group will reveal placement for the coveted collegiate journalism honors in late April. Region 2 includes the District, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland and North Carolina. First place winners will advance to a national contest.
