Gray denies reports that he would not seek reelection

A report from one of Mayor Vincent Gray’s top aides Friday questioned his prospects of a second term, but Gray’s office quickly denied the rumor.

“I am not even halfway through my term at this point,” Gray, also an alumnus, told WJLA Friday. “I have had no discussion with anyone about running or not running.”

Gray’s time in office was tainted this year by allegations that he had illegally funneled thousands of dollars into his 2010 campaign against incumbent Mayor Adrian Fenty.

The federal government launched a probe into Gray’s alleged “shadow campaign,” which was confirmed by a former aide’s testimony in July that the campaign picked up $653,800 in illegal donations. The investigation is ongoing.

The District’s next mayoral contest will take place in November 2014.
