Baseball announces hire of assistant coach

Dave Lorber will be the Colonials’ assistant baseball coach, joining associate head coach and interim head coach Tom Sheridan on GW’s roster.

The Colonials are overhauling their coaching staff after former head coach Steve Mrowka was fired at the end of the 2012 season. The University has yet to announce a new head coach for the program, but previously said the hire would be made public in the fall. Athletics communications director Brian Sereno has declined to comment on specifics regarding the search for the new head coach.

Lorber served as an assistant coach for Stony Brook last season, on staff as the Seawolves made a run to the College World Series after winning a school-record 52 games. Lorber worked with outfielders, base runners and hitters, as well as serving as the recruiting manager for Stony Brook.

“It is an honor to be joining a program with as much history and tradition as George Washington,” Lorber said. “There is a huge sense of enthusiasm in the air with the brand new facilities at Barcroft Park, and I am very excited to be a part of a team that has great potential to succeed this upcoming season and in the future.”

Lorber spent a season at Division II Felician College, where he worked with pitchers, catchers and team defense as an assistant coach. Lorber is a 2008 graduate of Central Connecticut State, where he helped the Blue Devils to the finals of the 2007 Northeast Conference Championship Tournament.
