One of the nation’s leading energy suppliers invested nearly half a million dollars in an energy policy program at the GW Law School.

The Constellation Foundation – a branch of the national energy provider Exelon Corporation – donated $450,000 to the law school Monday to develop an energy law and policy initiative, according to a GW press release. The school has taught energy law for more than 30 years.

The initiative, slated to launch this year, was “designed to develop thought leadership on key legal and public policy issues related to the United States electric energy sector,” according to the release.

Dean Paul Schiff Berman noted the importance of energy policy in relation to the country’s economic future.

“With this generous contribution from the Constellation Foundation, GW Law is poised to become the national leader among law schools by becoming a trusted, non-partisan source of innovative thinking in this ever-changing sector,” Berman said in the release.

Constellation provides energy, power and natural gas to thousands of retail businesses and nearly one million residential customers.
