Potential second lady boasts GW diploma

The two major candidates for president and their running mates might not be Colonials themselves, but Mitt Romney’s new VP hopeful came as close as he could to being a Colonial. He married one.

Janna Ryan, wife of presumptive vice-presidential Republican nominee Paul Ryan, graduated from GW Law School before marrying  her husband in 2000.

If Romney wins the election, Ryan won’t be the first second lady to boast a relationship with GW.

Jane Hadley Barkley, wife of Harry Truman’s vice president Alben Barkley, worked at the University as a secretary in the 1960s after her husband’s death.

And Bess Truman, a former second lady herself, was a GW mom while her daughter Margaret pursued a degree in history before  graduating in 1946.

Ryan, 43, has a bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College and has worked for firms including PricewaterhouseCoopers.
