Maps & Atlases, a Chicago-based band that has earned acclaim from indie rock fans, will headline the inaugural festival set for move-in weekend. More than 20 local bands, including the indie pop group Silver Liners and rapper Andru Ayoub, will also take the stage.

Colin O’Brien, a junior, is organizing the event with hopes of bringing a a unique concert experience to GW and Foggy Bottom, generating buzz for local bands that don’t often play large venues. While the University hosts annual concerts like Fall Fest and Spring Fling, O’Brien set up the festival independently of the student organization Program Board.

“The idea is that the event will be a stage for these up-and-coming bands to be spotlighted on, so that more people on campus and in the area will discover some great talent,” O’Brien said in an email.

The concert will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 10 p.m. Food and drink vendors have not yet been announced. Tickets can be purchased in advance online here, for $10, and will be available for $15 at the door.
