Stephen Crawford, a research professor in the GW Institute of Public Policy, will take on a top leadership role in the financially ailing government agency if the U.S. Senate confirms his nomination.

By becoming a U.S. Postal Services governor, Crawford will have a hand in controlling the agency’s expenditures. The postal service has had to consider overhauling services and cutting jobs after Congress applied budget pressure to the postal service last year in the face of a multibillion dollar shortfall for the agency.

Obama also nominated three other federal officials Wednesday, including a commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission.

“I am proud to nominate such impressive individuals to these important roles, and I am grateful they have agreed to lend their considerable talents to this administration. I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead,” Obama said in a release.

Crawford did not immediately return a request for comment.

In the GW Institute of Public Policy, Crawford works with the University-wide research center to pitch research proposals and manage public policy projects.

Crawford has also served as vice president for policy and research at the Corporation for Enterprise Development and as a nonresident senior fellow at the nonpartisan think tank Brookings Institution.
