Erica Williamson is the Colonials’ newest addition, taking on the role of director of basketball operations after a season in the same position at Loyola University (Md.).

Williamson’s hire is one with clear ties to new head coach Jonathan Tsipis – she played for Notre Dame for four years with Tsipis as the assistant coach. Williamson played in 130 games for the Fighting Irish, scoring 741 total points and pulling down 539 total rebounds. She is eighth all-time at Notre Dame with 125 career blocks, and her 1.19 blocks per game average is good enough for seventh-best in program history. Williamson is the second Tsipis hire with Notre Dame ties, joining associate head coach Megan Duffy.

“Adding Erica Williamson to my staff brings great energy, organization and basketball knowledge to the GW women’s basketball program,” Tsipis said in a release. “Erica was a model student-athlete at Notre Dame, where her experiences as a player and campus leader will allow her to mentor our student-athletes. Her enthusiasm is contagious and she will help me in several administrative areas of our program.”

While with the Fighting Irish, Williamson saw the program reach four consecutive 20-plus win seasons and four straight NCAA tournament berths, including trips to the Sweet 16 in 2008 and 2010. She earned BIG EAST All-Academic Team honors three times, and was also named to the 2007 BIG EAST All-Freshmen Team.

After graduating in 2010, Williamson traveled overseas to compete in Damen Basketball Bundesliga 1st Division, the premier women’s basketball league in Germany. There, she was the starting center for the SV Halle Lions for the 2010-11 season before leaving competition after undergoing reconstructive surgery on both ankles.

Upon her return stateside, Williamson worked as the color commentator for UND.com during the women’s basketball team’s trip to the 2011 Final Four, before working at Loyola last season.
