Center Kevin Larsen is the latest addition to the Colonials after signing a National Letter of Intent to join GW next season today, first reported by The Washington Post.

Larsen’s commitment will fill the final scholarship slot for the men’s basketball program, left vacant after sophomore guard Dan Guest announced his plans to transfer in March. Larsen’s addition would also officially round out the first recruiting class of head coach Mike Lonergan’s career with GW.

Larsen, a 6-foot-10, 240 pound center, competed for the Montrose Christian boy’s basketball team, which went 21-3 this season with Larsen averaging 7.5 points per game. He will likely be looked to as a crucial presence in the Colonials’ frontcourt, which struggled last season after the transfer of center Daymon Warren and graduation of center Joseph Katuka.

Among the other schools recruiting Larsen were A-10 rivals Temple and Richmond, according to ESPN.com, which awarded him a scout’s grade of 40. Larsen competed in the 2011 U18 European Championships for Denmark, where he averaged 10.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists.

Larsen will join fellow incoming recruits Kethan Savage, Joe McDonald, Patricio Garino and Kyprianos “Paris” Maragkos, as well as Villanova transfer Isaiah Armwood, on the court for GW next season.
