Guthrie spoofs China expansion in student org video

It isn’t all serious business for GW School of Business Dean Doug Guthrie.

The leader of the business school strapped on a guitar and sang a parody of Don McLean’s “American Pie” for a spoof video produced by a student organization of MBA students last week.

In the video – dubbed “The Day the Markets Died” – Guthrie sings about how the outlook for MBA programs changed after the markets “went to shit” and compares his looks to actor Steve Buscemi.

The second-year dean also pokes fun at his agenda to expand the business school into China, where he led the launch of a master’s of finance program for Chinese students last fall, with plans to further expand University programming there.

In the video, produced by GWSB Follies, Guthrie sings: “Steve Knapp hired a new dean / It turned out to be Steve Buscemi / It was an odd decision / They wondered what could be the vision / Dean Buscemi came in with a plan / But not one for his native land / He was obsessed with China.”
