Hatchet wins two national awards

The Society of Professional Journalists named The Hatchet a national finalist for the best non-daily student newspaper today.

The Hatchet beat out newspapers around the country to win the national finalist award, after winning the Mark of Excellence award for best non-daily newspaper in the region last month. The Ithacan took home the category’s top prize.

SPJ also selected senior photo editor Michelle Rattinger as a national finalist in general news photography for her coverage of National Go Topless Day.

SPJ’s annual Mark of Excellence awards honor the best of student journalism for print, radio, television and online work. Non-daily newspapers are defined as those that publish less than four times per week. The awards are arguably the most coveted awards in collegiate journalism.
