Profile on Style

Profile on Style is a weekly post that explores the motivations behind GW’s fashion trends. We’ll show you the most interesting aspects of GW style, and then try to make some sense of it all. Keep your eyes open for a reporter and photographer walking around because you might become the latest trendsetter.

This post was written by Hatchet reporter Samantha Hatton.

Spring break has passed and D.C. greeted returning students with some beautifully warm weather, making the transition back to school a little bit easier. Here are some examples of the back-from-break style seen on campus:

Sarah Willis. Delaney Walsh | Hatchet Photographer

Name: Sarah Willis
Year: 2014
Major: English
Hometown: Cambridge, Mass.
Inspired by: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Nicole Richie
Outfit: Dress, Ark & Co.; jacket, 7 For All Mankind; glasses, Warby Parker; bracelet, Hayden-Harnett; shoes and belt, vintage

Sarah Willis describes her style as “conservative cute with an edge.” Her color blocking dress felt fresh with its pleated skirt and burnt orange and ivory hues. To reinforce the silhouette, Willis added a vintage black belt that coordinated well with her black boots, keeping the look casual. For additional edge, she wore a sharp black jacket. Her glasses were from Warby Parker, a company that donates a pair of glasses to a child in need for every pair purchased.

Sam Bauer. Delaney Walsh | Hatchet Photographer

Name: Sam Bauer
Year: 2014
Major: Geology
Hometown: Folsom, Calif.
Inspired by: Older sister
Outfit: Cardigan, J.Crew; shirt, Lacoste; pants, J.Crew; shoes, Michael Kors; belt, vintage; bag, Hobo International

Sam Bauer paired J.Crew pencil pants with matching Michael Kors loafers for a casual yet professional look. To keep things light for spring, she wore an off-white sequined cardigan, also from J.Crew. Her blue clutch from Hobo International added a pop of color to the neutral tones of the rest of her look that was just perfect for spring.

Name: Emily Ruderman
Year: 2015
Major: Business
Hometown: Staten Island, N.Y.
Outfit: Dress, Forever 21; bag, Rebecca Minkoff; watch, Michael Kors; shoes, Steve Madden; sunglasses, Ray-Ban

Freshman Emily Ruderman embraced the nice weather in a striped maxi dress from Forever 21. The black stripes worked well with her black Rebecca Minkoff bag, which gave her look an edge with gold studs. Her nude flats were perfect as their simplicity didn’t compete with the bold stripes on the dress. Emily added some color with a few coral and aqua bracelets.
